Hello

My name is Reece Bickerdyke. I'm a multi-generation Arizonan who is passionate about the future of our beautiful state. I graduated from Northern Arizona University with a degree in Biology and a certificate in Wildlife Management and Ecology. I believe goats present a path forward for Arizona's environments and regenerative agriculture. As we enter an age of responsible land stewardship, re-imaging traditional practices becomes crucial for our state's prolonged prosperity.

My Story

I grew up in the upper Sonoran desert, surrounded by the mountains and canyons near Cave Creek, Arizona. Spending a significant amount of my childhood outdoors, I developed a deep fascination for the natural world. The upper Sonoran desert holds immense beauty, and my experiences there taught me to appreciate the subtle wonders of the arid landscape.

This passion led me to pursue a degree in biology at Northern Arizona University (NAU). During my time at NAU, I gained insights into the principles of land stewardship and the critical importance of responsibly managing natural resources for the benefit of future generations. To further apply these principles, I engaged in seasonal work with the Bureau of Land Management and the Forest Service across the western United States. This experience taught me that there is no one-size-fits-all solution to land management; each environment requires individualized care.

After meeting my wife, I realized the nomadic lifestyle of seasonal work had to end, prompting me to secure a position at the Grand Canyon Deer Farm in Williams, Arizona. It was here my passion for hoof stock blossomed. I had a true passion for working with small ruminants, and eventually became obsessed with goats. Subsequently, I took a position at a goat dairy, focusing on raising Nubian goats. We produced cheeses and milk while, focusing on overall animal wellness first. This experience provided valuable insights into goat care and the diverse challenges associated with managing a herd.

Eventually, I established my own herd of Kiko goats, marking the beginning of a delightful adventure in sustainable grazing. Goats thrive in arid landscapes, and Arizona is a perfect fit for these animals. I'm committed to sharing why goats are a better solution to land management in Arizona and what they can do for Arizona economies.
